Is Tomlinson The Next To Be Cut

Published by James under Free Agency Edit This

The San Diego Union Tribune is reporting that the Chargers have made a “final offer” to star running back LaDainian Tomlinson to restructure his contract, indicating that if a restructure does not happen that he will need to find employment elsewhere next season.

Tomlinson is frustrated by making less than his backup Darren Sproles, who was given the franchise tag this off-season, despite being clearly the best running back in the league for the past five seasons.  Hampered by a turf toe injury LT had his worst season of his career in 2008 and is close to 30, the age where most running backs hit the wall.

If LT is cut he should have no trouble finding work with the Seahawks, Cardinals, and Raiders looking for a #1 running back and will possibly draw interest from many other teams with a committee situation like the Patriots, Lions and Broncos.  Needless to say LT should have no trouble finding a job if he needs one.

Lynch Enters Guilty Plea

Published by James under Off The Field Edit This

Bills running back Marshawn Lynch entered a guilty plea on a misdemeanor gun charge and received 3 years of probation along with 80 hours of community service.  Two additional misdemeanor gun charges were dropped.

For Lynch this is his second incident in under a year, and with guns involved look for commssioner Roger Goodell  to get involved.  The Bills were very interested in free agent running back Fred Taylor, who eventually signed with the Patriots, so clearly they are concerned about their backfield for the upcoming season.

Where Will Terrell Owens Sign?

Published by James under Free Agency Edit This

In case you live in a cave or under a rock, you know Terrell Owens was released by the Cowboys in a move I never would have figured would happen in a million years.  In releasing Owens the Cowboys not only lose their best receiver but also take a $9 Million cap hit this season… ouch!

So where will Owens land?  There are a few teams in desperate need of a receiver and thanks to his antics of past years we can cross the Eagles and 49ers off the list.  At first glance the teams I can think of who would be interested in Owens would be the Jets, Giants, Jaguars,  Ravens, Vikings, Patriots, Raiders and Bucs.

The Ravens were burned once by Owens when was traded from San Francisco so they are likely out and Vikings coach Brad Childress got enough of Owens’ antics  in Philly so they are likely out as well.  The Giants may need a replacement for Plaxico Burress but they got rid of Shockey for his treatment of Eli Manning so I dont see them making the move.

That leaves the Raiders, Jets, Patriots and Jaguars, but the Jets need to use that money for a quarterback and the Pats have holes of their own.  The Raiders are a very young, inexperienced team and have some major salary issues of their own with bloated contracts and big money.  I also dont know if Owens would sign with a team with a young unproven quarterback (if he can help it) so they may be out.

If I had to put money on it the receiver starved Jaguars will make a big push for Owens services, after all they left Matt Jones on the field after being busted doing coke in broad daylight, TO has never done anything nearly that bad, hes just a pain in the butt.
